Malvern Fringe Arts are hosting a Folk & Roots Evening at Malvern Youth Centre on 1st November.

Headlining will be Jack Harris, one of the brightest young stars in contemporary roots music. A young songwriter from Builth Wells in Wales, Jack has showcased at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in 2004, as well as turning out a winning performance at Texas's Kerrville New Folk Competition the following year.
A songwriter from an early age, he has been performing regularly in clubs since the age of 15 and released his debut CD three years later. Currently a Literature student at Oxford, he has been described by Andrew Calhoun of Waterbug Records as a 'born poet' and 'a voice of regeneration and sure kindness in the face of cruel realities'.

Also featuring will be new band The Players, formed by Paul Jeffery of Gandhi's Walrus. Paul Jeffery, Phil Keys & Ed Steelefox, who all play at a differing height, weight, age and level of hairyness, wariness and inner kerfuffle, share a particular wry humour and a leaning to the left of the Space Car, but cook pretty tasty aural soup, playing material as diverse as Blind Blake through to Donovan. Psychedelic folk? You bet!

Completing the musical line-up is Malvern's own Ray Mytton, one of the best-known musicians in the region. Ray has been in more bands than he cares to remember, 'from eclectic to electric and all points between'. A community music leader as well as a rock & folk singer, he has over the past few years become interested in the more traditional side of composing and music-making. His debut album 'Enchanted Heart', released last year on Red Dog Records, has been widely critically acclaimed.

The Fringe are also very proud to present slam-poetess LizzieMac, a sassy lassie from Oxford with an in-yer-face commentary on anything you care to think of, that leaves nothing to the imagination other than how you decide to participate with her. Her current aim is to militarise motherhood.
