- DREAMCATCHER -
'DREAMCATCHER' is a beautiful blend of ethnic voices and instruments from arond the world, interwoven with lingering melodies and atmospheric textures, combined with strong modern western rhythms. It is aimed at the mainstream market and will appeal especially to fans of 'Enigma'/'Deep Forest'/'Adiemus', etc.
The album has been created and produced by David Lowe. Some of the ethnic vocals he recorded in kenya and Somalia in South Arica, others were recorded in Paris. The album was put together at his home studio, high on the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, the source of much of it's inspiration. He has used several Malvern musicians including the vocalists Andrea Blythe and Marilyn Middleton Pollock.
The 'Dreamcatcher' album takes us on a kaleidoscope journey. 'In A Ocean Of Joy" starts in a surreal version of the East, and the next two tracks move across Japan, China, India and the Middle East. By track four, we've reached an imaginary Africa. with male chants and an operatic soprano generating an eerie soundscape in 'The Second Day".
By track five, night has fallen as we encounter a group of men drinking around a camp-fire; a couple of English phrases stick out of their mumbles - 'Drink some of this" and the title, "This Is The Time". A creaking door leads into "Falling With You' where the traveller overhears an African man talking to himself, for the first time she sings a distinct Lyric in English,
The exhilarating rush of "Call Of The Wild." resolves into the triumphant "Love Is A Friend", the album's cornerstone track. "Heat, And Dust" brings us out of the night into early dawn, and "Life" takes the story to its exultant conclusion.
The video for "In A Ocean Of Joy" introduces some of the key concepts of the album - quest and discovery, mystery and sensual pleasure. The female character is appropriately ambiguous - is she the central figure in the story, or somebody the traveller has encountered? Many of the images in the album sleeve are derived from this video.
